Always Be Light

--------------------------------

Here's the part two of the fic! Hope you guys enjoy it.

--------------------------------

That all was 8 years ago, and you were now grown. You found a nice job after getting out of college, and you lived in the city. Right now, you were walking down the sidewalk to your favorite café. It was a cold morning. You crossed the road, seeing the café right in front of it. You walked inside, and being a regular, they already had your order ready. You then paid before grabbing the styrofoam cup, turning around to walk out.

Taking a big sigh, you opened the door to the café. Stepping out, you held the cup tighter in your hand. You started walking, thinking of what to have for dinner. You gasped when you bumped into someone, your coffee spilling all over them. You heard them hiss at the heat, and judging from the sound of their voice, it was a man. A specific man with a back story to match him. A man who knew the heat that he was feeling right now because of the coffee could never compare to the heat he felt 7 years ago. The heat that reached his cheeks when he saw the one he loved. The heat that started when he saw that person.

He still remembered the splashing of water that person swam in. Toned legs rapidly moving, hands cutting an invisible space through the water. Head raising and dipping back down with every breath. The person that smiled brightly every time she finished a lap. That person was named (F/N). The most wonderful, kindest person he'd ever met. In the past, he had asked (F/N) what was so special about swimming. (F/N) replied that, "Whenever I swim, I see a light. A light that I always try to reach. But I never do reach it. So I'm gonna keep swimming to reach that undying light!". When she made it her dream to swim, he never stopped cheering her on.

She not only swam with skill, but she also swam with heart and passion. Which is one of the things this man loved about (F/N). This man was named Matthew. The cutest, kindest and most wonderful person (F/N) had ever met. He was always there. Even now, cheering (F/N) on as she swam. She could hear the shouts and yelling of people cheering her and the other swimmers on. 'Ugh.. Still not first..!' She thought, ignoring the burning in her limbs. She went faster, putting all her desire into her hands and legs. 'There it is.' (F/N) thought, (e/c) eyes widening behind her goggles. 'The light.' She furrowed her eyebrows, focusing on the small glistening light.

Not even noticing she was way past the others, (F/N) curled at the end, pushing her feet against the opposite wall as hard as she could. Launching back farther into the water, (F/N) sped past the others. (F/N) panted as she lifted her head over and over again and finally, her hand touched the finish. Immediately raising her head from the water, she took a huge breath. "D-Did I win?" (F/N) spoke, looking at the score board. '1. (F/N) (L/N), 2. Haruka Nanase..' The list said, and (F/N) raised her fist, grinning. "I did it!" She cried out in victory, relishing in the moment for a while. Getting out of the water, she looked around the audience for Matthew.

Once she spotted him, (F/N) waved at Matthew. "Yes! Finals, here I come!" She laughed out, as her other swim-mates came up to congratulate her. Later, after (F/N) dried up, she met up with Matthew who was outside. "Aye Mattie!" (F/N) greeted him, waving. "Hey (F/N)." He smiled, walking up to her. "You did great! I'm so proud to have you as my best friend~" Matthew pat her head and she grinned like an excited puppy. (F/N) kept smiling, even if her heart stung at 'best friend'. "So, (F/N).." He said softly as the two started walking.

"Hm?" (F/N) gripped her bag tighter. Her heart beat faster, sweat forming on her palms. The two stopped in front of the swimmer's house, staring at each other for a moment. "I want you to come to the Bora Beach tomorrow night. I have something to tell you. Go inside the plaza." Matthew said with a serious face. "O-Okay. I will. Goodnight, Matthew." (F/N) replied with a blush. "Goodnight, (F/N)." He said with a smile, before walking away. The other scurried into her home, sighing with a smile before locking the main door.

She dropped her bag, going to the kitchen to eat something. She thought of the possible things that could happen. What if.. Matthew would confess..? No, no! That couldn't possibly happen. But if it did, (F/N) would've definitely said yes. Hearing the familiar ring of the microwave, she took out the food. Soon after eating, she did her nightly routine, before heading to bed. Her head was filled with thoughts as she laid there. Slowly drifting off with thoughts of Matthew, (F/N) gave a small smile.

The next morning, (F/N) woke up grumpier than ever. Her body was sore. Probably from all the swimming and exercise.. Ignoring it, (F/N) walked into the bathroom. She had few hours to get ready, since she woke up so late. Another thing that added to her grumpiness. Stripping off her clothing, (F/N) walked into the shower. "Crap!" She shrieked, the freezing cold water wetting her. She forgot that when you turn on the shower it's cold at first.. Going back under the water, she sighed in relaxation at the warm water.

Continuing her bath as she hummed old songs, (F/N) turned off the shower once she was done. Stepping out of the shower, she wrapped a towel around herself. She then started washing her face, brushing her teeth right after. (F/N) opened the door to her room, shivering a bit at the air. After drying herself, she dropped the towel and put on her underwear. She then dressed into her swimsuit, in case they'd go swimming. What? It was a beach! (F/N) then put on some black jeans, and a (f/c) Fisherman sweater. She sighed in comfort at the fluffiness. (F/N) dried her damp (h/c) hair, walking out the door and down the stairs.

Humming a tune, she walked into the kitchen and opened the freezer, taking out a Hot Pocket. The pepperoni ones. (F/N) hated the ham and cheese ones. Taking out a plate and placing the Hot Pocket onto it, she put the plate into the microwave and set the time. (F/N) then sat down, waiting for the familiar beep. Once the beep signaled the treat was cooked, she took it out of the microwave and hissed a bit at the heat. She laid it down on the table and took out a fork and knife. It was too hot for her to use her hands.

Sitting down and letting out a breath, she dug the fork into the middle and sliced it with the knife, the cheese seeping out of the cut. "Ahh~" She let out a noise of excitement. Yes, (F/N) was that excited about a Hot Pocket. After practically inhaling her food, (F/N) put it in the sink and went back up the stairs to their room. Walking in front of her mirror, (F/N) brushed through her now dry hair with her fingers. After styling it, (F/N) examined herself before grabbing what she needed and heading downstairs. After saying a 'bye' to the house, she stepped out and locked the main door. (F/N) walked up to her car that was parked right outside and stepped in.

"Okay." She said to herself before inserting the key into its ignition, twisting it. (F/N) started driving down the road, nervousness filling her chest. She checked the time. 6:00 PM. She was a bit early. Driving a bit slower, she tried calming her heart beat. 'Oh God.' She thought, realizing that so many things could happen. Would Matthew confess? Or would he say they couldn't be friends? Would he introduce his a girlfriend or boyfriend?! All these thoughts were starting to form a pit in her stomach. (F/N) sped up a bit, wanting to get this over with. She connected her iPod to the AUX cord, so she could play some songs. She went to her favorite playlist, putting it on shuffle. As the song played, she tapped her fingers against the steering wheel.

Once the chorus came on, she started singing. "They say that teenagers scare the living shit out of me~!" She sang happily, forgetting about all her nervousness. A couple of songs later, she drove into the parking lot. Still singing, she parked her car. Taking a deep breath, (F/N) unplugged her iPod and cut the engine of the car. She pulled the key out from the ignition, opening the car door. Checking the time, she bit her lip. 8:04. Perfect. She walked into the entrance of the beach resort and headed towards the plaza. She wondered why it had to be there.. Meh. Deciding not to question Matthew, she walked up to the plaza entrance.

"Well. This is it." (F/N) whispered to herself. Her heart was nearly bursting with anxiety. It was petty to be so nervous about something like this. But you see, (F/N) had never seen Matthew with such an expression. She slowly opened the door with a shaky hand, raising an eyebrow as she walked in. It was empty. She reached towards the light switch, turning it on. "Surprise!" She heard a chorus of people yell, causing her to scream. "Jolly fucking Ranchers!" (F/N) cursed, sighing in relief once she saw her swim team members, and other clubs. "Haha! You looked so scared, dude!" Alfred, the football team captain, wrapped his arm around her shoulders.

She smiled and shrugged his arm off. "Who wouldn't be?" (F/N) replied with a soft chuckle. "So, what's this about?" She asked. "Well, we're throwing this party in honor of you, (F/N)-san." She heard a voice, and saw Kiku standing next to her. "Oh, Kiku! How are ya?" (F/N) grinned. They were good friends, considering they both loved anime. "I'm quite okay. You?" Kiku smiled at her sweetly. "I'm doing great. But why in honor of me..? I haven't even won." (F/N) questioned. "You not only got into the finals, but you're representing our city too! And this city is huge!" Alfred exclaimed, smiling brightly.

(F/N) chuckled, sighing. "Thank you for this, guys." She spoke, looking around in sincere happiness. "Don't thank us. Thank Matthew-san instead. He prepared all of this." Kiku informed her. Her eyes widened a bit. "Speaking of Matthew, where is he?" (F/N) raised an eyebrow. "I don't know.. He hasn't shown up." Alfred replied. (F/N) furrowed her eyebrows, looking around. It was true. "I'll go look for him outside." She said, smiling. "Oh, hai." Kiku replied, dragging Alfred away. (F/N) chuckled, walking back out the plaza.

It was a breezy night. She started walking, and thought she might as well go to the beach. "Ah, it's so nice here!" (F/N) exclaimed, loving the cool wind. The waves weren't calm, but they were comforting. She loved hearing the crashing of the water, the scent making her sigh. She looked up at the stars. They were so beautiful. Not as bright as her light though. All was right, until she heard a horrid shriek. She turned to the voice, eyes widening.

She started running towards the source, seeing a woman run up to her. "(F/N)! M-My son! He wanted to swim in the shallow w-water! And t-then when I turned, he was gone!" The woman started panicking, and (F/N) grasped her shoulders. "Where was he swimming?" (F/N) asked sternly, looking her in the eye. "O-Over here!" The woman pulled (F/N)'s arm, dragging her. "There! Look there!" The woman had tears falling from here eyes as she pointed into the ocean. (F/N) quickly stripped off her clothing, and dove into the water, glad she had her swimsuit on.

Her eyes burned under the water as she searched. 'Where is he?' She repeated in her head, lifting herself up from the water to breath. She saw an arm rise from the water. He must've been brought away by the waves. Swimming as fast as she could, she spotted the boy who was flailing around in the water. (F/N) then swam towards him, wrapping an arm around his torso. She nodded at him, silently telling him he was going to be okay. Her free arm helped her swim up, as her legs burned from kicking.

(F/N) then flinched, feeling a terrible pain in her ankle. 'C-Cramp!' She said in her head, desperately trying to swim up with the painful ankle. Meanwhile, Matthew had just shown up, running towards the beach. He was a bit late, since he had some things to finish. Alfred told him on the phone that (F/N) was looking for him. Since she wasn't in the plaza, nor at the entrance, she must've been at the beach. "(F/N)!" He kept calling out, as he walked on the sand. "Where are you?!" He yelled, spotting a woman near the ocean. It must be (F/N). "Hey, (F/N)!" He grinned, running towards the woman. "M-Matthew!" The woman turned to him, revealing her tear-streaked face. It certainly wasn't the person he was looking for.

"Oh, Miss Dulov! What's wrong?" He questioned, furrowing his eyebrows. "It's (F/N)! She was looking f-for my son in the water, and she hasn't come up yet! Something m-might've happened to them!" She clawed at his sweater, tears falling quicker. His eyes widened, as he spent no time taking off his sweater, shoes and socks. He jumped into the water, flinching at how cold it was.

He spotted (F/N) reaching out towards him with the boy in her arms. She was slowly losing air, but she had enough to reach Matthew. Her vision was becoming blurry, when suddenly, she saw the light. She reached out towards it, swimming with her remaining strength. It started to fade, until finally she lost her consciousness. Matthew had managed to drag them onto the sand after (F/N) had passed out. The mother of the boy rushed to his side, soon crying tears of joy when she managed to get the water out of his lungs. Matthew was next to (F/N).

He had his fingers intertwined as he pumped her chest. "C'mon, (F/N), come on!" He murmured, eyebrows furrowing as he took hold of her lips, proceeding to give CPR. He repeated the steps, doing what he needed to do. "No!" Matthew yelled, tears falling from his eyes. "(F/N)! Come back!" He sobbed, pumping her chest with his hands. He felt a hand on his shoulder, and he looked up towards the person. It was Alfred. He was crying too, as he slowly shook his head.

Matthew's eyes widened as he sobbed. "No..! (F/N).. I-If only I was here earlier.. She w-would've.." He grabbed her limp hand, holding it in between his. "(F/N).. P-Please!" Matthew's cries of pain and sadness were loud, as he let salty tears fall into his love's hand. "Don't leave me.." He mumbled, cradling her upper half in his arms. He ran his fingers through (F/N)'s wet hair, hoping this was like a movie and she'd wake up. But this wasn't a movie. This was reality. A couple of days after this, the funeral for (F/N) (L/N) was held.

Matthew stood in front of her grave, eyes dark. Why did she have to die? She had so much ahead of her.. And he didn't even tell her how he felt.. Matthew's hand curled into a fist, as he felt his tears well up again. He vowed to never forget her. To always remember how beautiful her smile was.. Or how cute her loud laugh was. He wouldn't forget anything about her.. Including the warm heat he felt in his chest whenever he saw her. The heat that filled his heart and body, whenever his name rolled off her tongue. The heat that could never compare to the heat he felt now, due to the coffee that was spilled on him.

"I'm so sorry!" Matthew heard, and looked at the source of the somewhat familiar voice. His eyes widened at what he saw. (h/c) hair.. (e/c) eyes.. That sweet voice.. It..It was (F/N)! "I wasn't looking! I'll buy you a new sweater, I'm just--" You looked up, and your voice was cut off by what you saw. Violet eyes.. That weird curl.. The exact same maple leaf sweater.. Matthew! It was him! And without another word, you two dropped whatever you were holding, embracing one another as you two shared a sweet kiss. Your hands were cupping his warm cheeks, while his arms were tightly wrapped around your waist. Your heart swelled with joy and happiness, as did his.

You couldn't explain how this could have happened, nor did you care. Matthew was here now. You were here now. Nothing else mattered as you two teared up. You two didn't let go, as if letting go meant you could never hold each other again. Tears fell from both of your eyes, as you smiled into the kiss. As you both pulled away, that was when something strange happened. Everything around you two darkened. All that you could see was him, tears streaking his pink cheeks. Matthew only saw you, as your (e/c) eyes brightened. That was it. Matthew was your light. And you were his.

How could this weird, unrealistic thing happen, you're wondering? How could two completely different people, with tragic pasts of the opposite person, somehow meet? Know this, my dear reader. No matter what we face, no matter what we lose, there is one thing I can guarantee you. As long as we see darkness, there will always be light.
